Two weeks Post op

Two weeks post op. I can now have mushy foods like mashed potatoes, soft fruits and veggies, cottage cheese, string cheese, soft meats like fish, imitation crab, canned chicken, soft pork, beans (with Beano), and so forth. Today was the first day. I had some canned peaches for breakfast. I am starting to get a little worried because I'm getting hungry every couple of hours. I don't feel like I should be getting hungry so often. I just don't know. I've put the question into the Obesity Help.com Message Boards to see if anyone has some insight. I am terrified that I am going to gain weight. I'll wait to eat something until I'm shaky and light headed because I'm afraid I'm "making myself hungry".

  1. Anette,
Right now if you're feeling any different than before your surgery, it's because you have swelling around your stomach. You won't get the result of restriction from the band until you've had a fill, or maybe even more than one. So just because you're starting to feel hunger doesn't mean this isn't working. Hunger is an important feeling to have, it's just what we do with that hunger that will make a difference in the outcome. I have never ignored my hunger in all of this weight loss journey. It's what you eat and when you stop eating that is going to determine how much weight you lose. I think if you're hungry, you should eat. Make a good choice, and eat the proper amount, but don't go hungry. That will sabotage your efforts. In fact, it's when I'm shaky hungry that I tend to make the worst food choices. I get so desperate for food that I'll grab whatever. You're doing great. Keep it up!

  2. Thanks Melissa. I think that makes sense. I've started trying to make most of my meals protein, rather than carbs and that has helped some. I think I'm just so worried about gaining weight and failing. I'm getting better. Thanks!

  3. How many ounces are you allowed to eat right now? And does it have to be so many of each food group?
